Troubleshooting
Find your symptom below. If nothing here helps, see Get help at the end.
The Launchpad does not show up
Section titled “The Launchpad does not show up”- Plug it in and wait a moment. The device list updates on its own; Scan again looks once more.
- Try another USB cable or port. Some cables only charge.
- Make sure your model is supported.
- On Windows, only one program can use a MIDI port at a time. Close Ableton Live, Novation Components, another controller app or a browser tab with Web MIDI, then scan again.
If the Launchpad shows up as Identified by port name only, it did not answer the identification request. That is normal for the Launchpad S. For other models it can mean the port is busy or the device is still starting up; unplug and plug it in again.
Pads light up on screen but nothing happens on the device, or the other way round
Section titled “Pads light up on screen but nothing happens on the device, or the other way round”- Open Settings → Launchpad and click Repaint LEDs.
- Turn on developer mode (Settings → Interface → Show diagnostics in the main window) and press a pad. If the MIDI monitor stays empty, the Launchpad does not reach Lunchpad: check the cable and close other MIDI apps.
- Disconnect and connect again from the device list.
Keys are not pressed (macOS)
Section titled “Keys are not pressed (macOS)”Hotkeys and push-to-talk need the Accessibility permission.
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility.
- Switch Lunchpad on. If it is already on, switch it off and on again after an update.
- In Lunchpad, click Check again on the notice, or Settings → Keyboard → Check keyboard access.
Soft presses are missed, or pads trigger too easily
Section titled “Soft presses are missed, or pads trigger too easily”On velocity-sensitive Launchpads, presses below a threshold are ignored. Open Settings → Launchpad, turn on Custom press threshold and move the slider: lower if soft presses are missed, higher if pads fire when you brush them. The default is 25.
On a Launchpad Pro, the press force comes from the Pro’s own set-up screen. Hold Setup and check the velocity option in the third grid row from the top. With Off, every press counts as full force, so Volume follows velocity has no effect.
A pad shows a small dot
Section titled “A pad shows a small dot”The dot means a sound file this button plays is missing: it was moved, renamed or deleted, or the page came from another computer. Open the button, expand the Play sound action and choose the file again. A notice also lists the missing files.
Buttons disappeared after switching Launchpads
Section titled “Buttons disappeared after switching Launchpads”Buttons are kept by position. If the new Launchpad has no pad at that position, the button is hidden, not deleted. A notice tells you how many, and Settings → Pages & backup shows the count per page. Connect the bigger Launchpad again to see them. See Using pages on another model.
OBS Studio does not connect
Section titled “OBS Studio does not connect”- Make sure OBS is running, version 28 or newer.
- In OBS, open Tools → WebSocket Server Settings, switch on the server, and compare the port and password with Settings → OBS Studio in Lunchpad.
- The Status line in the OBS tab shows the error OBS reports.
- If OBS runs on another computer, enter that computer’s address as Host and check that a firewall lets the port through.
Streamlabs Desktop does not connect
Section titled “Streamlabs Desktop does not connect”- Make sure Streamlabs Desktop is running.
- On the same computer, leave Host and Port at their defaults. Nothing needs to be switched on in Streamlabs.
- For Streamlabs on another computer, turn on Remote Control in Streamlabs (Settings → Remote Control) and copy its token into API token.
Home Assistant does not connect
Section titled “Home Assistant does not connect”- The status line under Settings → Home Assistant shows the reason. the access token was rejected means the token is wrong or was deleted: create a new one on your Home Assistant profile page, under Security.
- could not connect or timed out: check the Home Assistant address, including
http://orhttps://and the port, by opening it in a browser on the same computer. - For an
https://address with a self-signed certificate, switch on Accept a self-signed certificate. - A new entity is missing from the suggestions: click Reload entities.
More in Home Assistant.
OBS, Streamlabs or Home Assistant actions are missing from the menu
Section titled “OBS, Streamlabs or Home Assistant actions are missing from the menu”The + Add action menu only shows integrations you have switched on. Turn on Connect to OBS Studio, Connect to Streamlabs Desktop or Connect to Home Assistant in the settings.
A macro keeps running
Section titled “A macro keeps running”Loops and long waits run until they end or you stop them. Right-click any pad and choose Stop all macros, or use Stop all running macros in the tray menu. To make a button stop itself, see Stop this macro and Repeat while held.
Lunchpad is gone when I close the window
Section titled “Lunchpad is gone when I close the window”With Close to the tray off, closing the window quits Lunchpad. Turn it on in Settings → Interface. See Tray and updates.
Something changed and I want it back
Section titled “Something changed and I want it back”- Ctrl + Z (⌘ + Z on macOS) undoes changes to your pages while no editor is open.
- Settings → Pages & backup → Restore previous profile brings back the profile as it was before the last change.
Logs and the diagnostics report
Section titled “Logs and the diagnostics report”Open Settings → Diagnostics:
- Copy report copies a summary of versions, your system, MIDI ports, audio devices and integrations.
- Open log folder shows the log files.
The logs are in %LOCALAPPDATA%\com.lunchpad.app\logs.
The logs are in ~/Library/Logs/com.lunchpad.app.
